When a toilet blocks it is always a touchy subject if only for the real inconvenience and other issues that is causes. There will probably come a time when you flush the toilet, the bowl fills with foul water and it just sits still. The mess may slowly drain away but the blockage is more than likely still there, and after a second flush will return and fill again. This may or may not be the appropriate DIY job for you as it is not for the faint hearted. It might be a good idea to leave it for a professional plumbing service like Charlton Plumbers who are experienced in this area. What action can you take:1). There needs to be a water level in the toilet pan before you begin, even though it is not very nice. You will need to buy or maybe lend something called a drainage rod, this will have a thread on one end on which a 6in rubber plunger is connected, these are normally available from merchants. The skills of a professional tradesman like a Charlton Plumber can fix a blockage.2). Cover the mess and try and form a good seal with the rubber suction cup of the plunger. When sealed move the plunger in an up and down motion inside the pan. The vacuum that is created should clear the blockage. This plunger is very effective. Should the toilet still have the blockage after using the plunger the pipework may have a blockage lower down the pipework. This may just be air getting in through the open vent pipe at the top of the drain counter acting on the partial vacuum you are trying to create. A blockage further along the pipework can have an effect on lots of other appliances in your home such as basins and baths and may put them out of action which can cause a more inconvenience.
